Robotics firm unveils swarming micro USV/UUV

Underwater robotics company UUV Aquabotix has released versions of micro unmanned surface vehicles (USV) and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV) that can operate in a swarm.

Chief Executive Officer Whitney Million said multiple “swarm divers” can function simultaneously as a single co-ordinated entity, be easily controlled via one operator on the surface, and perform dives on command to collect valuable intelligence.

Capable of being deployed for research, harbour management and oceanography, the UUVs can handle undertake intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions and coordinated assaults through tracking, trailing and overwhelming targets.

Featuring an ability to operate as a UUV (diving underwater) and a USV (on the surface), the 0.75-metre and 1.7-kilogram vessels have a 50-metre dive depth, wireless data feedback upon surfacing, accurate temperature and pressure sensors, additional sensor payloads available, multi-constellation GPS and sustained surf zone operation.
