The US Department of Transportation is set to award more than US$241 million in discretionary grant funding for 25 projects to improve port facilities in 19 states and one territory through the Maritime Administration’s (MARAD) Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP).

The projects that were awarded grants include coastal seaports, Great Lakes ports, and inland river ports.

Among the notable projects is the Portsmouth Marine Terminal Offshore Wind Development project, which seeks to enable Virginia’s Portsmouth Marine Terminal to serve as a staging area in support of offshore wind projects on the US East Coast. This project will receive funding of around US$20 million.
