Quay reconstruction set for Poland’s Gdansk Port

The Port of Gdansk in Poland has awarded local company Porr a contract for the reconstruction of two quays.

The total length of the quays to be reconstructed is over 450 metres. Port officials expect completion of the project will help boost the competitiveness of the port, increasing its potential for handling cargo and general throughput.

The works are part of a broader upgrade project that also entails dredging activities, reconstruction of two other quays at the port, and construction of ancillary infrastructure such as a new water supply network, a rainwater sewage system with a purification system, an electricity grid, and energy-efficient lighting facilities.

The first two quays to be rebuilt are Bytomskie Quay, located along the Port Channel, and Rudowe quay, located in the Mining Basin. The other quays are due for an upgrade at a later date, once the tender procedures have been completed.

The first quays to be reconstructed were originally completed during the 1930s and the 1940s and are in need of upgrades beyond ad hoc works implemented in recent years.
