Portsmouth International Port in the UK recently unveiled a master plan covering expansion projects that will be initiated and completed over a 20-year period.

The projects will include expansion of port land to cater for increase in unaccompanied freight, extension of existing berths to accommodate ships up to 300 metres in length, incorporation of smart technology to manage cargo and passenger flow, installation of sustainable infrastructure to manage alternative power demands, and operation of a new electric ferry service.

There will be a phased approach to projects. The terminal construction will start this spring while installation of shore power charging facilities for use by smaller ships will commence in the summer.
