Ports of Corpus Christi, Rotterdam ink carbon reduction MOU

The Port of Corpus Christi in Texas and the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will allow the two entities to collaboratively improve their global maritime operations.

The objectives of the MOU include co-developing trade and commercial opportunities, information sharing, and developing and deploying new technologies specifically related to navigational safety and environmental protection.

The MOU is in line with the ports’ main objective of reducing their respective carbon footprints. In Rotterdam, measures towards that end include carbon capture and storage technologies, using hybrid, electric- or hydrogen-powered vehicles for port business and patrols, and discounts on port dues for seagoing vessels that exceed statutory environmental requirements.
