The Mongla Port Authority in southwestern Bangladesh has awarded a contract for deepening works to a partnership formed by Chinese firms Jianshu Haihong Construction Engineering Company and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.

The project has a cost of approximately US$89.2 million and is expected to last 18 months beginning in January 2021.

The works will be carried out on the inner bar of Port of Mongla’s channel. Once deepening is completed, containerships with 10-metre draughts will be able to anchor safely in the inner bar.
