CMA CGM signs MoA to operate Lekki port container terminal

Marseille-based CMA CGM Group has signed a memorandum of understanding to market, operate and maintain Lekki Port’s future container terminal in Nigeria.

The container terminal will serve as a transshipment hub to neighbouring countries, such as Togo and Benin, and reduce congestion at Lagos.

It will be equipped with a 1,200-metre quay and 13 quay cranes and will have a capacity of 2.5 million TEU.

Scheduled to start operating at the end of 2020, Lekki port will have two container berths at Nigeria’s first deep sea port.

The 16-metre depth at the port will allow ships with a capacity of up to 14,000 TEU to be handled.

It will be developed, built and operated by Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise (LPLE), a joint venture led by the Tolaram Group, the Lagos State Government and the Nigerian Ports Authority.
