The Calhoun Port Authority (CPA) in Point Comfort, Texas, has confirmed that the expansion of Calhoun Port will commence within this year.

Congress’ recent passage of the Water Resources and Development Act included language pursued by both the CPA and local oil and gas company Max Midstream authorising the deepening and widening of the port.

Once the widening and deepening project is completed by early 2023, Aframax and Suezmax ships will also be able to load crude oil at the port, making it a viable option for any exporter seeking a port other than Houston or Corpus Christi. An estimated 20 million barrels are expected to be shipped out of the port each month.
