Associated British Ports acquires WE Dowds (Shipping)

Associated British Ports (ABP) has completed the acquisition of family-owned port operations business WE Dowds (Shipping) for an undisclosed sum.

Established in 1960, the Newport, Wales-based Dowds is among the UK’s leading port operations businesses.

It operates a total of 10 separate warehouses with a combined area of more than 50,000 square metres.

ABP Chief Executive James Cooper said the deal would enable the WE Dowds business to continue growing.

ABP recently invested £4 million (US$5.5 million) to reconstruct the Shed 5 facility at the port of Newport.
