Ukraine: Mariupol Port to construct grain terminal

On June 1, the Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) and the state-owned Mariupol sea port signed a memorandum of understanding on the framework for the construction of a grain terminal in the rear of berths #3-4.

“As part of the agreement, USPA will reconstruct the berthage and carry out dredging near berths #3-4 to ensure the construction of a future grain terminal. Ukrainian Seaports Authority always supports constructive proposals aimed at attraction of an additional cargo flows and our activity in Mariupol seaport confirms this,” said the head of USPA, Raivis Veckagans.

Berth #3 will have a length of 145 metres and depth of 9.75 metres. Berth #4, with the same depth, will be longer at 234 metres. Funds allocated in 2017 amount to UAH18.278 million (US$696,200).

Mariupol Port plans to increase cargo handling volumes by two million tonnes per year after the construction of the terminal, which is expected to provide 60 additional jobs.

Completion of the terminal is scheduled by the end of 2018. The reconstruction of the berthage infrastructure is scheduled to be completed by mid-2019. The modernised berthage will be launched in several stages to ensure the smooth operation of the new complex.
