Oman reveals LNG bunkering hub plans

LNG vessels, such as Total’s Christophe de Margery, will be able to bunker at Oman if plans proceed.

French energy giant Total will develop an LNG bunkering service under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Oman to develop natural gas resources in Oman.

The MoU covers upstream and downstream businesses.

Total (25 per cent) and Shell (75 per cent) will develop natural gas discoveries in the Greater Barik area on onshore Block 6, with the objective of an initial gas production of 500 MMcfd and a potential to reach one bcf/d at a later stage.

Total will use its equity gas entitlement to develop an LNG bunkering service at Sohar port to supply LNG as a fuel to marine vessels.

The plant will comprise a train of one million tonnes per year and has space to expand.
