First steel cut for ‘BigRoll Barentsz’

BigRoll Shipping has announced the first steel of ‘BigRoll Barentsz’ was cut at COSCO Dalian Shipyard in mid-June.

The vessel is the first of two MC-class module carriers for the transportation of ultra large and heavy modular cargoes.

She is scheduled for delivery by mid-August 2015, with sister vessel ‘BigRoll Bering’  following in October 2015.

BigRoll Shipping also holds an option for two additional vessels.

The vessel class will have Finnish Swedish 1A ice class notation and will be designed with a deadweight tonnage of 21,000DWT.

On board, the vessel decks are completely flush, with a true open stern and deck space measuring 42 metres by 125 metres.

The vessels are highly suited to travel to remote areas such as the Arctic, but can also be used for direct offshore supply operations.
