Netherlands-based Royal Wagenborg has confirmed that one of its cargo vessels recently completed the company’s first Trans-Atlantic voyage sailing on co-processed marine fuel.

Wagenborg said that the shipment, requested by one of its customers, illustrated the ease to switch to this type of a drop-in bio fuel. This then resulted in a 68 per cent reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on this specific voyage.

The fuel is produced using ISCC PLUS-certified raw materials, such as vegetable oils, used cooking oil, or animal fat, which may reduce GHG emissions up to 80 per cent over the lifecycle, when compared to fossil fuels.
