Ship leasing business Seapath, a company under New York-based conglomerate the Libra Group, has placed an order for six deck barges in a series to be built by St Johns Ship Building of Palatka, Florida.

The vessels will be despatched to multiple charterers along the US East Coast.

The barges are designed for the transportation of cargo in open sea states. The open deck space will be able to accommodate oversize cargo while the barges themselves can access a greater number of harbours thanks to their shallow draughts.

The barges will be built to US Coast Guard and American Bureau of Shipping class requirements.
