Finland’s Norsepower and Norwegian logistics company Sea-Cargo have entered into an agreement for the installation of two large rotor sails on board SC Connector, a freight-only Ro-Ro vessel.

Norsepower claims the 35-metre rotor sail installation on SC Connector will be the first such rotor sails in the world to have a tilting function. This will allow the sails to be folded, thus enabling the retrofit vessel to sail under bridges and power lines.

Preparations for the retrofit on SC Connector are currently taking place with the installation scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2020. Norsepower has analysed the routes for the vessel and estimates that the technology would be able to achieve a carbon emissions reduction of around 25 per cent.
