Nanjing Jinling cuts steel for new low-emission Ro-Ro for Finnlines

China’s Nanjing Jinling Shipyard cut the first steel for a new 17,400DWT freight only Ro-Ro vessel for Finnlines on Monday, June 8.

The 238- by 34-metre vessel will have capacity for 5,800 lane matres and up to 300 TEUs and will be equipped with lithium-ion batteries to ensure reduced emissions while in port. It will also have Finnish/Swedish ice class 1A Super notation.

The vessel is one in a series of three ordered by Finnlines from Nanjing Jinling. The first vessel is expected to enter service as early as 2021 while the remaining two will follow in 2022.

Design work for all three vessels was provided by Knud E. Hansen.
