Volkswagen to charter four more LNG-fueled car carriers

Volkswagen Group Logistics has entered into separate agreements with shipowners Wallenius Marine and SFL Corporation for the charters of four newbuilding car carriers powered by LNG dual-fuel engines.

The vessels are being built in China. Once completed, each will have capacity for 7,000 CEUs and MAN dual-fuel 13,300kW engines that will deliver a speed of 15 to 16 knots.

Volkswagen expects all four LNG-powered car carriers to be operational by the end of 2023. These will serve the route between Emden, Germany, and Veracruz, Mexico.
