Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the construction of 12 LNG-fueled pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) by local companies Shin Kurushima Dockyard and Nihon Shipyard.

Six ships will be built at each of the two shipyards. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between FY2025 and FY2028.

NYK said it will have 20 LNG-fueled PCTCs in its fleet by 2028 following the deliveries of these 12 new ships.
