Höegh Autoliners has entered into a contract with China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) for four fixed and eight optional multi-fuel and low carbon-ready vehicle carriers.
Under the terms of the contract, the first two vessels will be delivered in the second half of 2024 and the next two vessels will follow in the first half of 2025. In addition, Höegh has options for another four plus four vessels in the same series.
Höegh said the vessels will have DNV’s ammonia and methanol ready notation and will have capacity for up to 9,100 cars. The multi-fuel engine on each vessel will be capable of running on diesel or LNG.
With modifications, the vessels can transition to use future low-carbon fuels including ammonia and methanol.
Design work on the vessels is provided by Finnish naval architects Deltamarin.
