NYK orders heavy-lift vessel pair

NYK Bulk and Projects Carriers, an NYK Group company, has signed a contract with China Merchants Group subsidiary Nanjing Jinling Shipyard to build two heavy-lift vessels.

These ships will be equipped with two 400-tonne cranes and be able to lift up to 800 tonnes of heavy cargo. The hold of each vessel will be about 95 metres in length at its maximum without any bulkheads.

The ships will be hatch coverless, which will allow for navigation with the hatch cover open. Further, the bridge will be placed at the ship front, enabling the loading of tall and large cargo without disrupting forward visibility during navigation.

The vessels will each have a length of 138 metres, a beam of 23.6 metres, and a deadweight of about 12,400 tonnes.

Deliveries are scheduled for August 2021 and January 2022.
