Dutch yard launches new bulker for Irish owner

Dutch shipbuilder Ferus Smit has launched a new bulk carrier ordered by an unnamed owner based in Ireland.

Arklow Artist belongs to a series of six vessels ordered by the same customer from Ferus Smit. It will be mainly employed in the shipment of wheat, corn, and other bulk commodities in European waters.

The design is adapted for ice class 1A, with a modified bow form and propulsion with a propeller nozzle added.

Ferus Smit said that, at the same time, the main engine output was decreased to 2,000 kW for better fuel efficiency.

Once completed, the 119- by 15-metre Arklow Artist will have a total cargo capacity of approximately 106,000 cubic metres.
