DNV GL, Oshima to collaborate on zero emission bulker designs

DNV GL and Oshima Shipbuilding have signed a long-term strategic cooperation to conduct research and development together on new bulk carrier designs.

The first delivery resulting from the cooperation is Oshima Ultramax 2030, a new bulk carrier design developed with assistance from Wärtsilä and recently unveiled at the Nor-Shipping trade fair in Oslo.

The vessel incorporates an LNG engine, an optimised hull shape, a sail to generate extra propulsion, and solar panels and a battery for ultra-low emissions while charging in port.
