The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has responded to an incident involving a Vietnamese-flagged cargo vessel that ran aground in the waters between the islands of Nagubat and Liwagao in Antique province on Thursday, August 13.

The 4,300DWT Globe 6 with 25 crew and a cargo of rice on board was en route from Ho Chi Minh City to Davao City in the southern Philippines when the incident occurred.

No injuries or oil spills have been reported.

Globe 6‘s captain claims the officer on watch (OOW) fell asleep while on the bridge, which then led to the vessel coming to rest on a shallow area between the two islands.

The coast guard multi-role response vessel BRP Cape Engaño has since deployed to the area with a team of divers tasked with inspecting the cargo ship’s hull for any signs of damage.
