Canadian shipowner CSL Group has confirmed that a new type of second-generation biodiesel fuel will be tested on half of its fleet over the course of the 2021 navigation season.

The operational tests will be a follow-up to the previous year’s successful trials of the biodiesel on the main engines of two CSL ships.

CSL Group President and CEO Louis Martel said that replacing fossil fuel with biodiesel on the company’s vessels requires no modification of existing equipment and provides a viable carbon-neutral fuel source over each vessel’s lifecycle.
