The largest freight ferry to be deployed in the Mediterranean, Alf Pollack, has been launched and named at Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft in Germany.

The 209.7-metre by 26-metre Alf Pollack is the first of two freight roll on-roll off (Ro-Ro) ships for the Siem Group, which will charter the vessel to Italian shipping company Onorato Armatori on a long-term bareboat charter.

Capable of carrying up to 310 semi-trailers in its 4,076-lane metres, Alf Pollak will be delivered in October.

Both vessels will operate in the Mediterranean on routes between Sardinia and Sicily.
