Construction of world’s largest plug-in hybrid ship underway at UIstein Verft

Ulstein Verft marked the construction start-up of Color Hybrid, the world’s largest plug-in hybrid ship, on Thursday, November 15.

The Fosen Yard-designed Ro-Pax vessel will be servicing Color Line’s Sandefjord-Strömstad route starting in the summer of 2019.

As a plug-in hybrid vessel, Color Hybrid will switch to batteries when it reaches the fjord outside Sandefjord. The ship will be powered by battery through the fjord to ensure reduced noise and harmful emissions.

When moored in Sandefjord, the vessel will be charged by a shore connection.

Color Hybrid will be able to accommodate 2,000 passengers and 500 cars once completed.
