Dubai-based P&O Maritime Logistics has said it is set to enter the container carrying market following the successful installation of a container fitting modification on one of its multi-carrying vessels.

The modification allows a standard MCV to accommodate 20-foot, 40-foot, and 45-foot containers without impacting the vessel’s ability to transport general and oversized project cargo. P&O Maritime said container-fitted MCVs will be ideal for operation on lower volume, high frequency shortsea routes as well as trade routes through rivers and to shallow water ports, such as those found throughout Europe.

The company confirmed that an additional five vessels will undergo similar modifications in the future.
