Matson christens second Aloha-class ship

Matson christened on Saturday, March 9, the second of two Aloha-class containerships in a ceremony at Philly Shipyard in Philadelphia.

The new vessel, named Kaimana Hila, is a sister ship to Daniel K. Inouye, which went into service in November 2018. Kaimana Hila is a Hawaiian transliteration for “Diamond Head,” the name of Hawaii’s iconic landmark crater near Waikiki Beach.

Kamina Hila will have a displacement of 51,400 tonnes, a length of 259 metres, dual fuel engines that can be adapted to use LNG, a maximum speed of 24 knots, and capacity for 3,600 TEUs once completed.
