Maersk has confirmed that the containership Maersk Eindhoven faced an engine stop in heavy weather on Wednesday, February 17, while en route from Xiamen, China, to Los Angeles, California.

Maersk reported that several hundred containers have been lost overboard while the 13,100TEU vessel was in transit in the Pacific.

The company added that the crew is safe and that the propulsion has been fixed. It is also currently assessing the nearest suitable port options in Asia to berth the vessel before it could resume its voyage to the US.
