Global Ship Lease to acquire 16 vessels

London-based Global Ship Lease has entered into separate agreements to acquire a total of 16 vessels from various owners.

Twelve of the containerships each have a 3,000TEU capacity and will be acquired from Borealis Finance for an aggregate purchase price of US$233.9 million. The ships are all on charter with various liner operators, with remaining charter durations of three to 25 months.

The four remaining vessels are 5,470TEU Panamax reefer containerships acquired for an aggregate purchase price of US$148 million. On delivery, the ships will be chartered to a liner operator for a firm period of three years each, with a charterer’s option for a period of an additional three years.

All 16 ships are scheduled to be delivered by the third quarter of 2021.
