Containership catches fire in Palembang, Indonesia

A fire broke out on a containership in Palembang, Indonesia, on Tuesday, November 26.

The blaze erupted in the wheelhouse of the 98-metre Tanto Ceria at approximately 07:25 local time while the vessel was moored at the Port of Maspion in Palembang.

The Indonesian Sea and Coast Guard then despatched the patrol vessels KNP Grantin and KNP 329 from its base at Tanjung Perak to lead search and rescue (SAR) and firefighting efforts.

Three civilian tugs had also arrived at the scene to render assistance.

The flames were fully extinguished by 09:14. All of Tanto Ceria‘s 19 crewmembers were rescued without injury.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
