In the first quarter of 2024, A.P. Moller-Maersk will introduce the first in a new series of eight large ocean-going container vessels capable of operating on carbon neutral methanol.

The 16,000TEU vessels will be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). The agreement with HHI includes an option for four additional vessels in 2025.

The eight newbuildings will replace older vessels in the A.P. Moller-Maersk fleet.

The company expects the use of methanol will generate CO2 emissions savings of around one million tonnes every year.
