Crowley Maritime christens new Con-Ro ship

Crowley Maritime Corporation christened its newest Commitment-class Con-Ro ship El Coquí on Saturday, October 20.

Delivered to Crowley on July 20, El Coquí is one of the first LNG-powered Con-Ro ships ever constructed.

The 26,500DWT ship is 219.5 metres long and is able to transport up to 2,400 TEUs at a cruising speed of 22 knots.

El Coquí is the first of two vessels built as part of Crowley’s Commitment-class project. Sister ship Taíno is in the final phases of construction and testing at VT Halter Marine’s shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi and is expected to be delivered later this year.
