Hyundai Merchant Marine order 20 new containerships

Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has selected three shipbuilders to build 20 new eco-friendly containerships, part of the company’s plan to reach a total fleet capacity of one million TEU.

First, HMM chose Daewoo Shipbuilding and  Marine Engineering (DSME) and Samsung Heavy Industries for seven and five 23,000TEU containerships respectively, which are expected to deliver in the second quarter of 2020.

HMM also selected Hyundai Heavy Industries for eight 14,000TEU containerships to be delivered in the second quarter of 2021.
