COSCO Shipping Gemini joins 20,000TEU club

COSCO Shipping Lines has started operating another of its 20,000TEU containerships.

The Hong Kong-flagged 20,000TEU containership COSCO Shipping Gemini was built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry.

Classed by DNV-GL and CCS, the 400-metre by 58.6-metre vessel has a maximum draught of 16 metres.

The 202,000GT has an operating speed of 22.5 knots and is fitted with 1,000 reefer plugs.

It is the fourth 20,000TEU ship in the series to be delivered this year after Aries, Taurus and Leo.

Leo was scheduled to start operating earlier this month on the Far East-Northwest Europe loop (AEU3) between Piraeus (Greece), Rotterdam (the Netherlands), Hamburg (Germany) and Antwerp (Belgium).
