COSCO Shipping names another 20,000TEU boxship

China’s COSCO Shipping Lines has named its newbuild 20,000TEU containership COSCO Shipping Leo at Nantong.

Built by Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS), COSCO Shipping Leo is the second 20,000 TEU ULCV built by NACKS.

The 197,000DWT ship, which measures 400 metres by 58.6 metres, is expected to start sea trials today.

It will join the company’s fleet on April 10 to serve on the Far East-Northwest Europe (AEU3) loop between Piraeus (Greece), Rotterdam (the Netherlands), Hamburg (Germany) and Antwerp (Belgium.

She is a sister vessel to COSCO Shipping Aries, which was delivered in January.
