Raytheon, a unit of American defence supplier RTX, has secured a $646 million contract to continue manufacturing AN/SPY-6(V) radars for the US Navy. This award represents the fourth option exercised from a March 2022 hardware, production, and sustainment contract, which has a potential value of up to $3 billion over five years.

Under the terms of this contract, the US Navy will acquire four additional radars, bringing the total number of AN/SPY-6(V) radars under contract for procurement to 42.

This new contract follows on a recently signed $536 million deal, also with the US Navy, to provide integration and test support for SPY-6 radars on the navy's vessels.

The AN/SPY-6(V) radars are developed and produced at Raytheon's radar development facility in Andover, Massachusetts. This 30,000-square-foot site supports radar production for US and allied forces.

According to Raytheon, the majority of the work under this new contract is expected to be completed at the Andover facility through 2028.
