USA: The Department of the Navy has submitted its spending plan to Congress in which it proposed the purchase of nine ships and 206 aircraft, as well as the postponement of the Marine Corps' Expeditionery Fighting Vehicle and the cancellation of the advanced cruiser, the CG(X).
The Navy Department's top budget official, Rear Admiral Joseph Mulloy, held a press conference on February 8 at the Pentagon to speak about the US$179.1 billion spending plan.
Under the proposal, the Navy would purchase two Virginia-class submarines, two Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, two Littoral Combat Ships (LCS), one America-class big deck amphibious ship, one Mobile Landing Platform auxiliary and one Joint High Speed Vessel.
The Navy would also extend the life of four air-cushioned landing craft, purchase one oceanographic ship and also one ship-to-shore vessel to replace one air-cushioned landing craft.
