From Baird Maritime:
The author is a decorated former officer in the US Navy SEALs so it can be assumed that he knows what he is writing about. The book is published by the Naval Institute Press which is another gold plated reference.
The SEAL Task Unit of Naval frogmen fought very successfully in the crucial battle of Ramadi in Iraq from 2005-2007. They fought alongside and inspired "conventional" forces. One of their number, PO2 Michael Monsoor, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery during the battle.
A long and brutal battle, it resulted in numerous SEAL casualties including a number of deaths in addition to Monsoor. The outcome, nevertheless, was a rather rare success in the ongoing Iraq War.
Many lessons have and can be learnt from the effectiveness of deploying SEALs with regular forces even, surprisingly, in an urban war zone. They can also be learnt from using them against terrorists or, at least, irregular forces on the other side.
Apart from these doctrinal lessons, the book is a very exciting and good read. Something positive about the Iraq War for a change.
