
Construction continues on new naval ships for the UK and Finland as orders have been placed for vessels for operation in the Philippines, Poland, and India.
The Polish Maritime Search and Rescue Service has placed an order with Lamor for three specialised boats for combating oil pollution in shallow and sheltered waters.
The value of the order is nearly two million euros ($2.3 million), which has been entered into Lamor’s order backlog in the second quarter of 2025.
India's Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has emerged as the lowest bidder for the construction of five ships in a new class of corvettes slated for the Indian Navy.
GRSE will thus be awarded the contract to build five "next generation corvettes" (NGC) at an estimated cost of approximately INR250 billion (US$2.94 billion).
The Philippine Department of Transportation has entered into an agreement with French shipbuilder OCEA for the supply of 40 patrol boats as well as associated integrated logistic support and maintenance services.
The 35-metre boats will be operated by the Philippine Coast Guard.
OCEA previously supplied the coast guard with five vessels. These include the four Boracay-class 24-metre fast patrol boats and the 80-metre offshore patrol vessel BRP Gabriela Silang.
The first multi-purpose corvette built for the Finnish Navy’s "Squadron 2020" project was launched at Rauma shipyard on Wednesday.
The building of the second multi-purpose corvette began during October 2024 and its keel was laid on May 8, 2025.
The first of eight Type 26 or City-class frigates slated for the UK Royal Navy was formally named in a ceremony at BAE Systems' shipbuilding facility in Scotstoun on Thursday, May 22.
The frigate has been named HMS Glasgow in honour of the city of Glasgow in Scotland.
