Recent deliveries include a prototype logistics support craft for the US Marine Corps, a rocket-equipped patrol vessel for South Korea, and a fire and rescue boat for a Romanian Baltic Sea operator. A new Peruvian Navy landing vessel has meanwhile been launched. Lastly, a newly formed collaboration will explore the possibility of the manufacture of new warships for the Royal Danish Navy.
The US Marine Corps, through the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory (MCWL), recently accepted the first example in a new class of logistics support vessels designated as ancillary support craft (ASCs).
"Designed to navigate challenging maritime geography and bridge logistical gaps, the ASC represents a major leap forward in the marine corps' ability to sustain stand-in forces within contested littoral environments, particularly in the Pacific," the MCWL said in a statement following its technical acceptance of the new vessel.
"By using a partnership intermediary contracting strategy, the ASC program moved rapidly from concept to construction, placing work with a non-traditional shipbuilder to shorten the path to a fielded prototype."
Contracted to Birdon America in 2024, the prototype vessel ASC 1 will soon undergo rigorous testing and tactical experimentation led by the MCWL.
UK defence shipbuilder the Babcock International Group and Danish naval consortium Danske Flådeskibe (DFS) have entered into an agreement to develop a joint UK-Danish industrial approach in the potential construction of new warships for the Royal Danish Navy.
The agreement builds upon a framework agreement established between Babcock and DFS in early 2026.
DFS consists of the OMT Group, Terma, PensionDanmark and Semco Maritime. The consortium was established to offer an integrated Danish solution for the design, construction and through-life support of the Royal Danish Navy’s future frigates.
Since early this year, the two companies have been exploring how Babcock’s frigate design and international programme experience can be combined with DFS’s industrial capabilities and infrastructure.
A new response boat has been formally welcomed into service by the naval detachment of the Romanian General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (Inspectoratul General pentru Situaţii de Urgenţă; IGSU).
MAI 0101 is equipped to perform firefighting, search and rescue, and emergency medical assistance duties in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean.
The vessel is able to handle fires both on board vessels and offshore energy infrastructure, as well as support firefighting and decontamination in operations in the water.
The vessel has been outfitted with self-protection installations, radar and day and night surveillance cameras. She is also equipped with small rapid response boats, a rescue system, and a crane.
Peruvian shipbuilder SIMA has launched a new landing ship slated for the Peruvian Navy.
The future BAP Chimbote belongs to a class of two landing ships being built by SIMA for the Peruvian Navy. The future BAP Talara, the other vessel in the class, was also launched recently.
SIMA, with South Korea's HD Hyundai Heavy Industries providing technical support, is building the two landing ships in addition to a frigate and an offshore patrol vessel. The latter two vessels will also be handed over to the Peruvian Navy upon completion.
South Korea's HJ Shipbuilding and Construction has delivered a new high-speed patrol craft ordered by the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN).
The future ROKS Chamsuri-231 belongs to the Gumdoksuri-class patrol killer medium rocket vessels (PKMRs), which are upgraded variants of the ROKN's Yoon Youngha-class patrol boats.
The PKMRs will be employed primarily as quick reaction platforms along the Northern Limit Line, the de facto maritime boundary between North and South Korea in the Yellow Sea.
