Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has allocated over US$855 million towards the building of a brand new state-controlled super shipyard in the town of Primorsk. The government said that it would become one of the world's most modern shipyards.

According to several statements of the Prime Minister and the head of Vyborg Shipyard, Georgy Poryadin, the new shipyard should be ready in three years.

The announcement of the plans for this new shipyard took place shortly after the announcement that Russian businessman Vitaly Yusufov would purchase the Wadan shipyards (pictured below) in Germany. Mr Yusufov said he would build some of the vessels which were supposed to have been built at the new shipyard in Primorsk.
