VESSEL REVIEW | Zhongguo Yuzheng 44002 – Large patrol ship to operate off south-eastern China

The Shenzhen Marine Comprehensive Law Enforcement Detachment, a maritime law enforcement agency of the Chinese government, has taken delivery of a new ocean patrol vessel that will be operated off the south-eastern city of Shenzhen.

Zhongguo Yuzheng 44002 ("China Fishery Administration 44002") was built by Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding to a design by the 701 Research Institute of the China Shipbuilding Group. Construction was completed in compliance to China Classification Society rules.

The vessel has an LOA of 116.4 metres, a beam of 15 metres, a draught of 4.2 metres, a depth of 5.9 metres, and a full load displacement of 3,330 tonnes. A diesel-electric propulsion system that also includes two MTU 8,200kW main engines allows the vessel to reach speeds in excess of 25 knots and sail up to 6,000 nautical miles or stay out at sea for 60 days.

An advanced intelligence system will perform real-time monitoring of the navigation and propulsion systems. This will enable the crew to more accurately assess the vessel's operating condition and to schedule maintenance periods whenever needed.

The vessel is also equipped with a flight deck for use by a helicopter or unmanned aerial vehicles to augment its surveillance and patrol coverage.

Zhongguo Yuzheng 44002 will perform fisheries protection and general maritime law enforcement patrols off Shenzhen in line with the city's goal of becoming a global maritime hub.
