UAE builder delivers new 38-metre patrol boats

Published on:

Grandweld Shipyards in the UAE recently delivered a new series of aluminium patrol boats.

Grandweld said the vessels are designed for missions such as coastal surveillance, offshore patrolling, and fast response operations.

With a hulls optimised for weight and strength, the boats are designed for operation in both shallow and open waters. Their low draughts will allow for nearshore manoeuvrability while maintaining seakeeping ability for extended operations.

Each vessel has a length of 38.2 metres, a beam of 7.7 metres, a draught of approximately 1.41 metres, and three main engines that deliver speeds of up to 30 knots.

Grandweld said the interior supports 18 personnel, with accommodation designed to ensure comfort and efficiency during long-duration missions.

Facilities on each boat include six twin cabins, one four-berth cabin, dedicated one-person cabins for officers, a pantry, a crew mess, an officers' mess, and washrooms.

A seawater-cooled, direct expansion system delivers air conditioning to maintain comfort when operating under high temperatures.

One of the key features of each vessel is the joystick control system integrated with an autopilot. Grandweld said this advanced setup combines steering, propulsion, and bow thruster operations into a single, intuitive control interface, thus improving the vessel's responsiveness, control, and ease of use.

The other key equipment includes a gyrostabiliser, VHF and MF/HF radios, emergency signalling systems, fixed fire suppression systems, and an area A2 GMDSS. Space is also available for liferafts and personal safety gear.

The patrol vessels were built at Grandweld's facilities in Dubai Maritime City.
