The Danish Navy received two newbuild patrol boats Friday, both of which will immediately form part of Denmark's contribution to the European Union's border and coast guard agency Frontex.

One of the boats, Munin, was officially received in a ceremony at Naval Station Korsør, where Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen, Minister of Immigration and Integration Kaare Dybvad Bek, Chief of Defence Michael Hyldgaard and National Police Commissioner Thorkild Fogde were among the attendees.

The other, Hugin, is already on its way to the Mediterranean. There it will participate in an ongoing Italian-led Frontex operation.

The Danish Navy's third squadron and the Danish National Police are manning the new vessels, which will replace Stella Polaris and Viktar under Frontex.

The Marine Alutech-built pair comply with NATO's "coastal patrol boat" requirements and are equipped with FLIR thermal cameras.

Each 20 metres long, with beams of five metres, the vessels can be brought to a stop in less than 2.5 boat lengths from maximum speed.
