Navantia has launched the ninth LLC fast-landing craft for the Royal Australian Navy.

Part of a 12-vessel fleet, the main dimensions of the vessel include a length of 23.3 metres, a width of 6.4 metres, and a depth of 2.8 metres.

Powered by a pair of 809kW diesel engines coupled to waterjets, the vessel has an operating speed of more than 20 knots and an autonomous range of 190 nautical miles fully loaded.

The vessel's flexible loading capacity allows it to carry an Abrams vehicle, several Army vehicles, or a TEU-carrying container truck.

The contract for the construction of the fleet was signed in September 2011 and the works have been carried out in Spain's Bay of Cádiz. The landing craft series will operate with the forthcoming amphibious assault ships (ALHDs) 'Canberra' and 'Adelaide'.

All the ships are due to be delivered by mid-2015.

Australia is a strategic country for Navantia and has recently opened a subsidiary, Navantia Australia, to further engage with the Australian Government on future options for the Royal Australian Navy.
