UAE firm developing new UUVs for naval use

UAE-based unmanned systems manufacturer Arzanah recently unveiled two different series of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) designed for naval use.

The first craft measures three metres long with a modular assembly to permit the integration of various sensors including those for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. AI-based autonomous navigation systems and EO/IR cameras may also be installed.

Arzanah said that three examples of the three-metre UUV are undergoing sea trials. One example is slated to be handed over to the UAE Navy in the third quarter of 2025.

The second UUV is an 11-metre long craft built for advanced deep-sea exploration and military applications. Developed with finite element method (FEM) analysis, it includes dual propulsion consisting of a propeller and a pumpjet, magnetic anomaly detection, torpedo tubes, AI-based situational awareness systems, and unlimited depth capability.

The larger UUV can operate continuously for up 144 hours at four knots though it can reach a top speed of 20 knots.
