Polish defence firm unveils naval USV demonstrator
Polish defence technology company the WB Group recently unveiled a new unmanned surface vehicle (USV) designed to be used as a technology demonstrator.
The nine-metre USV will be used to test various systems optimised for naval missions such as strike, reconnaissance, and protection of infrastructure.
The craft's small size will enable it to be transported in existing rigid inflatable boat hangars aboard navy ships, thus reducing the need for additional dedicated storage facilities.
The USV will be able to accommodate a range of sensors such as radar, sonar, and electro-optical systems. Space will also be available for transporting unmanned aerial vehicles for reconnaissance and one-way attack, thus greatly expanding the craft's capabilities.
The USV can be fitted with onboard weapons or be operated as a target designation platform supporting other armed vessels. Its operating range can be extended up to 270 nautical miles with the aid of aerial platforms for radio signal retransmission.
