The Royal Canadian Navy Harry DeWolf-class offshore patrol ship HMCS William Hall recovered 245 kg of contraband in the Caribbean Sea earlier this month, the US Navy said in a press release dated June 13.
The seized contraband was later handed over to the embarked US Coast Guard law enforcement detachment on the US Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Cole and then later transferred to the US Coast Guard Reliance-class medium endurance cutter USCGC Vigorous.
The contraband’s transit was detected by Joint Interagency Task Force South, which collaborates with partner nations and utlises all-domain capabilities to detect and monitor illicit drug trafficking in the region.
The nature of the contraband and the details on its detection and recovery have not been disclosed by US and Canadian authorities.
The US Navy said the contraband and surrounding circumstances are considered under investigation and are subject to review and disposition through the US Department of Justice.
