Japan’s fifth Mogami-class frigate hits the water

The Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force's (JMSDF) fifth Mogami-class stealth frigate was launched into the water for the first time on Thursday, June 23.

The future JS Yahagi was formally named in the same ceremony at the Nagasaki Works facilities of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI).

The ship honours the Yahagi River, which flows through Nagano, Gifu, and Aichi prefectures.
